Joe Black, Surry Hills

Just when you thought Surry Hills was at maximum cafe capacity, along comes another great new addition: Joe Black. With a mural showing the evolution of human caffeine dependency, this place takes its coffee ultra-seriously. The blackboard offers two Single Origin special brews a day and a house blend, there are take-home packs galore and […]

Melbourne

As my parents could tell you, getting me interested in maths is a losing battle (for years, my brain and trigonometry enjoyed pretending the other did not exist). Here’s one calculation I enjoy making, though: taking a holiday and dividing it into maximum mealtimes and snack breaks – with no remainders left over. So this […]

Moose General Store, Redfern

Moose General Store, Redfern

One of the neverending joys of having a food blog is the number of tip-offs you receive from friends, happy to give you joint-custody of one of their favourite cafes. The funny thing is, the exact day that Clare told me about her “must-try” local – Moose in Redfern – the place closed up for […]

Baffi and Mo, Redfern

A brilliant breakfast menu is like a knockout second album by a band you love: different and original enough to leave the critics a little dizzy, but familiar enough to ensure everything that drew you in the first place hasn’t been reprogrammed out of existence. So, you want eggs, sides, toast and the comfort of […]

Bus Stop Espresso, Enmore

The folks behind the ever-popular Clipper in Glebe have opened a new cafe in Enmore. A few weeks back, Sally tipped me off about its impending arrival, and with it slated to open near Lisa’s house, all of us had been on new-Clipper-watch for a while. It was meant to open last Monday, but the […]

Hot chips are the edible equivalent of The Simpsons. It’s weird to know of anyone who doesn’t like either (although “later seasons” of hot chips probably don’t attract as many For & Against arguments as that 20-year-strong cartoon does). I’ve only ever heard of one person who could reject a bowl stacked with long, crispy, […]

Cafe Norita, Sydney

Cafe Norita, Sydney

If Betty & Veronica lived in Chinatown, I think they’d hang out at Norita Cafe. Located in the Sydney’s Spanish “quarter” (could a quarter be any smaller?), it seems to be a magnet for young folks wanting to sip on freshly-blitzed pineapple juices, crash out on an oversized couch and break out the board games. […]

About

Hi, I'm Lee Tran Lam. When not blogging with my mouth full, I'm usually writing, presenting Local Fidelity on FBi radio, making zines, producing podcasts or continually breaking promises about how I really am gonna get through my book pile one day.

All the good pictures on this blog are by photography ace (and patient boyfriend), Will Reichelt, (all the dodgy ones can be credited to me)!

The lovely banner is by friend and ultra-talented illustrator Grace Lee.

This site redesign was made possible by the next-level generosity and expertise of Daniel Boud, whose code-tinkering ways are only outranked by his seriously inspired way with a camera.

You can read more about my co-conspirators here.

This is a blog I do for pure fun and zero influence – there's no sponsorship, sneaky advertorial or advertising. I pay for all the food mentioned, 'cos it seems the ethical thing to do.

About

This is a blog about eating and drinking in Sydney, Australia (with the odd cross-border or off-topic detour). BYO appetite.
