Sixpenny, Stanmore

Sixpenny in Stanmore may be named after faded currency, but this new restaurant has plenty of sparkle and worth. It’s the long-awaited venture for Daniel Puskas and James Parry, the brilliant prize-winning chefs who last created course-by-course magic together at Oscillate Wildly. They’ve been wanting to open their own establishment since they left that fine […]

Recent eats and other things

Here are a few things that preoccupied me, appetite-wise, in the last week. The Lamington Affogato ($6) at Sample Coffee Bar in Surry Hills. It’s a 2-in-1 megahit of coffee and cake – and a fine enough reason to seek out this new-ish cafe. If you’re looking for (heart) trouble, try its custom Pacemaker blend […]

2011 favourites

With everyone hitting memory lane at the moment, I thought I’d follow the same, well-worn path and revisit some favourite food experiences of 2011. The year has unlatched many great surprises, from the Three-Milk Cake at El Capo – the Ryan Gosling of desserts, because it somehow becomes even more good-looking everytime you see it […]

A Q&A with Anna Lise de Lorenzo, of &company

The Lab, Anne-Louise Dadak Exquisite Corpse Recipe Book, Clare Flynn Food&company exhibition Have you always had an interest in food?My goodness, yes! I think I have to blame my upbringing for my love of food – my grandmother described us kids as a “league of nations”: our grandparents represent a heady mix of Italian, German, […]

Merry Crimbo

It’s that time of year again – oversocialising, panic-present-buying, frantically wrapping up work deadlines. Oh, and there are good bits, too. (The free-flowing amount of chocolate! The widespread sampling of finger food! The fact everyone is excited to see the cliff-edge of 2008.) I hope everyone is having an awesome wind-up of the year. If […]

End of an era for Oscillate Wildly in Newtown

It’s hard not to get keyed up about Oscillate Wildly. After jumping through the barriers of getting a booking (phone-wrangling a date for many months ahead – if you make it through the unending engaged signal), you end up having an incredible, ambitious dinner in a cosy, relaxed setting that will chart highly on your […]

Oscillate Wildly + The Codfather = ?

Oscillate Wildly + The Codfather = ?

So I read in this week’s Good Living that Ross Godfrey, owner of Oscillate Wildly and The Codfather has also now taken over The Carlisle Castle in Newtown. I’m intrigued as to how it now rates, given that Oscillate Wildly is amazing and The Codfather is not so loftily-placed – its record is a bit […]

About

Hi, I'm Lee Tran Lam. When not blogging with my mouth full, I'm usually writing, presenting Local Fidelity on FBi radio, making zines, producing podcasts or continually breaking promises about how I really am gonna get through my book pile one day.

All the good pictures on this blog are by photography ace (and patient boyfriend), Will Reichelt, (all the dodgy ones can be credited to me)!

The lovely banner is by friend and ultra-talented illustrator Grace Lee.

This site redesign was made possible by the next-level generosity and expertise of Daniel Boud, whose code-tinkering ways are only outranked by his seriously inspired way with a camera.

You can read more about my co-conspirators here.

This is a blog I do for pure fun and zero influence – there's no sponsorship, sneaky advertorial or advertising. I pay for all the food mentioned, 'cos it seems the ethical thing to do.
