Okonomiyaki at Cafe Ish, Surry Hills

I remember once being served Okonomiyaki by a waitress named ‘Sushi Susan’ – the Japanese pancake came accompanied by a small ‘pirate ship’ full of food. Around the table, we sliced up and shared the portions as a giant papier-mache squid hung above, like a marine chandelier. Even if this hadn’t taken place in an […]

Breakfast Bruschetta

There are always weekends spent moping around the house, wondering how your epic hunger coincides with a Mother Hubbard state of cupboard affairs. And then there are the ones where everything lines up extremely nicely. Blake and Lex had given me a jar of their home-made tomato relish the week before and I had some […]

Black Star Pastry, Newtown (again)

I know I blogged about Black Star Pastry last year but I was recently re-reminded of how great it is. The macro-sized patisserie has sort of provided the menu to my week – or a kind of diary spelt in sugar, ganache, elderflower and rosewater. It started last Saturday with a Zucchini and Pumpkin Muffin […]

The Save FBI cookbook zine – download, enjoy and donate

Not The Last Supper: the Save FBI cookbook zine is done and ready for you to download! If you’re printing it out, you can download a high-quality cover for it too. It was beautifully designed by Grace Lee. It was quickly put together in a week and features some very great recipes (Sweetie’s Delicious Dumplings, […]

Green plates

Sometimes it is really hard to tackle big serious topics without people zoning out and falling victim to a sudden epidemic of watch-checking. So I was really inspired by my friend Ebony’s approach to World Environment Day last week. You can read up on some of her many great deeds at her Hello Sandwich blog. […]

Clipper Cafe, Glebe

Sometimes you like a cafe from the very first millisecond. And then – several cleared plates, sipped-clean glasses and much cafe-lingering later – your initial instinct is proved right. So here it is, Clipper Cafe in Glebe, my latest big cafe crush. OK, so I didn’t quite stumble into this cute little terrace eatery by […]

Three Minute Sydney (and some Adriano Zumbo carrot-stick for you)

All good blogging intentions got slightly derailed when I discovered I’d won the open call-out for Three Minute Sydney. So, ack, sorry, more blog delays (even the trains are more reliable than me right now!). I’ve been busy re-reading what I’m going to say and trying to slim down my chances of looking like a […]

MCA Zine Fair this Sunday (normal blog status to return soon)

I know I’ve been a bit of a blog truant, wagging blog posts & missing upload roll call – it’s all because I’m in the middle of finishing zines and fundraising CDRs to sell at the MCA Zine Fair, on this Sunday. I’ll also be selling the awesome food-related art and craft of Grace Lee. […]

2-D Food (and see you at the MCA Zine Fair)

With every free second devoted to finishing my zine for next Sunday’s MCA Zine Fair, the food blog is a little cupboard-bare at the moment, I admit. I’m still scurrying around trying to complete the zine, but in the meantime, I thought I’d direct your eye to some cool food-related things my super-creative friends have […]

Pretty Pretty Yum Yum (again)

Amy’s Pretty Pretty Yum Yum covers the highlighter-bright spectrum of food and fashion in Japan and is definitely one of my favourite blogs. Whether it features the delightfully weird (like Salty Chocolate Crunch or all-mayo restaurants) or just monumentally cute (smiley face ice cream, turtle-shaped bread), Pretty Pretty Yum Yum always manages to add a […]

About

Hi, I'm Lee Tran Lam. When not blogging with my mouth full, I'm usually writing, presenting Local Fidelity on FBi radio, making zines, producing podcasts or continually breaking promises about how I really am gonna get through my book pile one day.

All the good pictures on this blog are by photography ace (and patient boyfriend), Will Reichelt, (all the dodgy ones can be credited to me)!

The lovely banner is by friend and ultra-talented illustrator Grace Lee.

This site redesign was made possible by the next-level generosity and expertise of Daniel Boud, whose code-tinkering ways are only outranked by his seriously inspired way with a camera.

You can read more about my co-conspirators here.

This is a blog I do for pure fun and zero influence – there's no sponsorship, sneaky advertorial or advertising. I pay for all the food mentioned, 'cos it seems the ethical thing to do.
