New podcast – Hugh Allen, Vue de Monde, Noma

You don’t need a roof or floor to run a great restaurant – that’s what Hugh Allen learnt while working at Noma’s Mexico pop-up. And yes, there were issues. “If it rained, the guests had to come sit in the kitchen,” he says. Simple things, like boiling water, became a mission that could take hours. […]

New podcast – Kate Reid, Lune Croissanterie

Would you line up at two AM in zero-degree weather, just for a croissant? People would regularly do that all the time, purely for the chance to try Kate Reid’s pastries. The New York Times, after all, said her croissants are “the finest you will find anywhere in the world, and alone worth a trip […]

New podcast – Shannon Martinez, Mo Wyse and El Rosa

People actively smuggle Smith & Deli‘s food onto planes – that’s how addictive the dishes are. Interstate regulars even bring their own Tupperware containers and cooler bags, so they can enjoy the food at home. That’s the power of what Shannon Martinez, Mo Wyse and El Rosa are doing at the popular Melbourne vegan deli […]

Long before he launched Belles Hot Chicken, Morgy started out cooking for huge volumes of Japanese […]

That time we went to Attica (and of course, it was amazing)

There’s no shortage of proof that Attica in Melbourne is an astounding, standard-setting restaurant. It’s still Australia’s highest-ranked entry in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list; bookings for two for the entirety of December disappeared in 43 seconds flat when reservations recently opened for that month; and the most respected international chefs endlessly act as […]

New podcasts and more

This post is brought to you by a lack of sleep! And some semi-news … I recently unleashed some new podcasts. If you’d like the audio company, you can listen to me chat to: Andrew Levins, who accidentally became a one-man media-storm over the last day or so, thanks to Barry O’Farrell’s ill-advised lockout laws. About

Hi, I'm Lee Tran Lam. When not blogging with my mouth full, I'm usually writing, presenting Local Fidelity on FBi radio, making zines, producing podcasts or continually breaking promises about how I really am gonna get through my book pile one day.

All the good pictures on this blog are by photography ace (and patient boyfriend), Will Reichelt, (all the dodgy ones can be credited to me)!

The lovely banner is by friend and ultra-talented illustrator Grace Lee.

This site redesign was made possible by the next-level generosity and expertise of Daniel Boud, whose code-tinkering ways are only outranked by his seriously inspired way with a camera.

You can read more about my co-conspirators here.

This is a blog I do for pure fun and zero influence – there's no sponsorship, sneaky advertorial or advertising. I pay for all the food mentioned, 'cos it seems the ethical thing to do.

About

This is a blog about eating and drinking in Sydney, Australia (with the odd cross-border or off-topic detour). BYO appetite.
