Food At Underbelly Arts

So somehow I was trusted to come up with the food line-up for Underbelly Arts festival! Getting to create a wish list of who should be caretakers of your hunger and thirst for next weekend’s Cockatoo Island event has been an awesome privilege. You might’ve seen some coverage about me “curating” the menu, but major […]

New podcast – Analiese Gregory, Funemployed

“Analiese, you’re going to have to move your car, we’re going to blow up your car.” This has to be one of my favourite-ever interviews – Analiese Gregory is one of the most fascinating chefs that I’ve been lucky enough to talk to. Not that working in food was an obvious pathway for her – […]

Highlights of Paris

If I had any control over clockwork, I’d rewind my life to the five times I’ve been to Paris or hit hyperspeed to some future trip where I’m there again. Even hearing the name of the French capital sparks an express trip in my head – a memory carousel of patisserie windows, park strolls, hours […]

New podcast – Matt Swieboda, Waterman’s Lobster Co

With Waterman’s Lobster Co in Potts Point, Matt Swieboda wanted to create the “Mary’s … of lobster roll places”. Here, Matt not only serves the classic American dish in both the Maine and Connecticut styles, but even includes a vegetarian egg-nori version that unexpectedly teleports you to Japan. (This roll is a delicious butter-mayo bomb, […]

Andrew Bowden (aka @andybowdy) is leaving Hartsyard

Dessert at Hartsyard means a spectacular sugar hit that not only knocks out your tastebuds, but sends your Instagram feed into a like-ratcheting frenzy. This is thanks to Andrew Bowden (aka @andybowdy) and his epic creations. But after July 19, this pastry chef is going solo, so make sure you book in for one last […]

Kepos & Co, Waterloo

Michael Rantissi has so many great ideas that he’s basically had to create a sequel to his much-loved Kepos Street Kitchen. Kepos & Co in Waterloo is his new spin-off: it recently opened footsteps away from the chef’s other restaurant. Both venues have flavour-vibrant menus evoking Mediterranean coastlines, but Kepos & Co takes a “more […]

New podcast – Christopher Thé, Black Star Pastry

The fan base for Black Star Pastry is pretty large – after all, its stores attract long lines, have scored many Sydney food awards and even drawn the attention of an Argentinean TV show (its crew called up and asked for an updated pavlova). Black Star Pastry’s success may seem unlikely when you consider that […]

Where we ate in Hobart

Whether Dark Mofo has lured you down or you need to fund a fact-finding mission to understand why your friends have been gushing about Tasmania for so long, there are plenty of ways to have memorable mealtimes in Hobart. Any time you open a menu here, it ends up being a map of the state’s […]

Top 5 podcasts

I know it’s been a little quiet on the podcasting front (the last month or so got side-swiped by making zines), so in the meantime, if you’d like an audio fix, here’s a recap of the most popular episodes I’ve ever done. 1. Dan Hong (El Loco, Ms G’s, Mr Wong, Papi Chulo) 2. Kylie […]

Don’t miss … the Italo Dining and Disco Club, Carriageworks

The Italo Dining and Disco Club pop-up opened on Sunday at Carriageworks and I somehow (or should that be “somehow”?) have found myself there three nights in a row. Not that you need an elaborate excuse for rerouting your path in this direction – the restaurants behind this venture have as much star power as […]

About

Hi, I'm Lee Tran Lam. When not blogging with my mouth full, I'm usually writing, presenting Local Fidelity on FBi radio, making zines, producing podcasts or continually breaking promises about how I really am gonna get through my book pile one day.

All the good pictures on this blog are by photography ace (and patient boyfriend), Will Reichelt, (all the dodgy ones can be credited to me)!

The lovely banner is by friend and ultra-talented illustrator Grace Lee.

This site redesign was made possible by the next-level generosity and expertise of Daniel Boud, whose code-tinkering ways are only outranked by his seriously inspired way with a camera.

You can read more about my co-conspirators here.

This is a blog I do for pure fun and zero influence – there's no sponsorship, sneaky advertorial or advertising. I pay for all the food mentioned, 'cos it seems the ethical thing to do.

About

This is a blog about eating and drinking in Sydney, Australia (with the odd cross-border or off-topic detour). BYO appetite.
