So it may seem like I’ve abandoned mission control for a bit, but that’s not entirely true! I recently started a new job and things have been ultra-busy. So my clearance rate on working through the posting backlog has not been amazing, I admit.
But the reason for the dust-collecting and blog weed growth is a little exciting. In case you don’t know, I’ve begun working at the Good Food website. The role is a mix of writing and producing (think CMS-tinkering, page updating, gallery-creating, social media upkeep, and copy-editing some really fun articles as well as keyboard-blitzing through some of my own stories). So I’ve written about bakeries protesting against supermarkets selling hot cross buns extremely early (can you believe that the Easter staple hits Woolworths shelves on January 6 next year?), Cadbury experimenting with kale for its iconic Milk Tray chocolate box line-up, and Gelato Messina’s creation of an edible bauble for Christmas. (It has the laugh-track-perfect name of Michael Baulblé and comes with a dosage of vanilla brandy custard that you pour inside the choc shell.)
I’ve also enjoyed doing a little behind-the-scenes work on Callan Boys’ amazing/hilarious feature on how to “Force-ify” your kitchen with Star Wars merch (X-wing knife block or R2-D2 teapot, anyone?), Jill Dupleix’s lowdown on where to eat and drink in Darwin and Adam Liaw’s 10 things to eat in Kuala Lumpur (I love that the satay is so good that people actively smuggle it back to Singapore).
So, I am going to get through my blogging backlog, I promise! In the meantime, if you’re after a distraction, consider working your way through the Good Food summer bucket list and its appetite-friendly recommendations (my pick is booking in for Sunday lunch at Moon Park once it re-opens in January and trying its heatwave-busting patbingsu and always brilliant menu).
Also, if you’re about to kickstart your break – happy holidays! Hope your stretch of Christmas and New Year celebrating is fantastic – and full of cameos from the best people in your life, generous sleep-ins and food that brings endless cheer to your summery days.
