Little Mule Cafe, Stanmore

Devon Cafe, Surry Hills

Little Mule Cafe in Stanmore, is worth sizing up.

Run by chef Liz Condon (formerly of much-loved Sydney institution Cafe Sopra) and open since May, the place has a highlight-heavy menu – which includes brilliant Roasted Mushies ($14) served on sourdough with a good pile-up of parmesan shavings and greens; a Breakfast Sarnie ($9.50) so tough to resist that Will destroyed his completely – the fried egg, spiced tomato chutney and bacon combo was wiped out in a time-lapse blur before I could even take an Instagram; there’s also a ‘Mule Style’ Curried Egg Sandwich ($8.50) that comes with a grind of garam marsala and surprise layer of crushed pappadums; and, for “bressert” (breakfast dessert), we waged cutlery war over a glass of Roasted Rhubarb ($9.50), layered with Greek yogurt and dusted with sweet dukkah – a scattering of nuts accompanied by the so-called “Christmas spices” (nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon – a fragrant memory bank of all your end-of-year holidays).

There’s also Campos Coffee if you need a caffeine jolt and home-made lemonade if you prefer something more sweet and sedate.

Is this place connected at all with Little Mule in Melbourne? That one’s inside a bike store and is one of my fav places to go when I’m in town.

  3. Carmen says:

The breakfast sarnie sounds absolutely smashing, definitely something I’d wake up for!

About

Hi, I'm Lee Tran Lam. When not blogging with my mouth full, I'm usually writing, presenting Local Fidelity on FBi radio, making zines, producing podcasts or continually breaking promises about how I really am gonna get through my book pile one day.

All the good pictures on this blog are by photography ace (and patient boyfriend), Will Reichelt, (all the dodgy ones can be credited to me)!

The lovely banner is by friend and ultra-talented illustrator Grace Lee.

This site redesign was made possible by the next-level generosity and expertise of Daniel Boud, whose code-tinkering ways are only outranked by his seriously inspired way with a camera.

This is a blog I do for pure fun and zero influence – there's no sponsorship, sneaky advertorial or advertising. I pay for all the food mentioned, 'cos it seems the ethical thing to do.
