Sometimes the best part of a weekend is just sitting in that full-glow evening light, eating dinner like you still have hours to laze around. All that brightness is kind of like a late-version of the snooze alarm – you’re let off the hook for now, ‘cos the sun’s still out and it’s only Saturday. No need to worry about the guilt pile of things you planned to achieve in your time off … not yet anyway. (That last-minute fluster is what Sunday evening is for.)
The way that gold haze hits just when evening is kicking in, kidding you that there’s so much potential left in your weekend – I love that moment of being fooled. Because it’s nice to believe it.
Sitting there, eating a gorgeous serve of piadina – the Special #3, with wild mushrooms, ricotta, rosemary and rocket lightly tucked into crisp flatbread ($15) – and chatting, sinking in that brightness, thinking of walking on the beach later, wondering when you can come back here to try the Nutellino ($1.50) piadina. It can’t last, but as the sun colludes with you for a little while longer, it’s the part you wish you could pause.
