Jazushi, Surry Hills

Jazushi has been on my “meaning-to-try” list for so long now. It’s gotten to the point where people are getting married, having babies and growing impressive years-in-the-making beards and I still haven’t achieved the simple goal of going to the actual restaurant. My friend Rach doesn’t have a Rip Van Winkle beard but she IS […]

The Local Taphouse, Darlinghurst

A few things I like about The Local Taphouse in Darlinghurst … -Until recently, if you had to do a police-style sketch of a beer enthusiast, you might easily draw up someone a little red-faced and aggro: a person whose physical appearance basically blared “avoid for your own safety” and “don’t invite to next party”. […]

Suspicious Drinks

Every now and then, my friends and I throw a dinner party where the challenge is to bring the weirdest beverages possible. Last time, Sophie not only hit the “suspicious drink lottery” – she did it UN-style, with her bag of German Strawberry Juice, Indonesian Creaming Soda and Chinese Bird’s Nest Drink (which listed “bird’s […]

A tale of two breakfasts

I really love trying out new places for breakfast – even if this can lead to awkward greetings when you go back to your regular joints. Wait Staff: Hey, haven’t seen you guys for a while…Me: [not sure how to reply, as I’ve obviously been seeing other cafes] What can you say, that you’re not […]

A Q&A with Clotilde from Chocolate and Zucchini

If you’re into food blogs, then it’s an easy bet that you love Chocolate and Zucchini. It’s extremely likeable, understandably popular and comes out of the well-stocked Paris kitchen of Clotilde Dusoulier. I was lucky enough to be able to quiz Clotilde for the blog I do at work. You can check it out here […]

An easter egg hunt from A-B: Adora, Adriano Zumbo, Belle Fleur and Boon

Buying a jumbo bag of supermarket Easter eggs and leaving a Hansel & Gretel-esque trail of coloured foil around your living room is pretty much a major tradition at this time of year. I’m as happy as anyone else to leave crinkly metallic scraps of yellow and pink “eggshell” around, but I also like the […]

A Sydney artist turns easter eggs into portable chalkboards

Easter eggs aren’t always about your sweet tooth. I love the look of Sydney artist/blogger Lisa Tilse’s Chalkboard Eggs so much that I thought I’d feature them here. No need to wrestle with crinkled foil or feel dental guilt as you handle these holiday treats. Just chalk away your favourite scribble, sketch or personal directive […]

La Buena Mesa, Annandale

If it’s possible to get to know someone over a drink, can you properly size up a cafe from just one simple beverage? The first time I went to La Buena Mesa, a year ago, all I had was a Mango & Kaffir Lime Leaf Frappe and already, I knew I liked this place. Due […]

Tetsuya’s, Sydney

It’s hard to be poker-faced when talking about Tetsuya’s. It’s the most gushed-about, overachieving restaurant in Sydney. Tets has retained three chef’s hats throughout the last 17 years, regularly (almost predictably) won Best Restaurant of the Year accolades with Meryl Streep-style consistency, and claimed the title of 5th Best Restaurant In The World in 2007 […]

Soon, promise

A post about Tetsuya’s should arrive here soon. It’s being slowed down by my less-than-express Brain Delivery (my brainwaves are a bit slow and distracted at the moment). Just to be totally backward, here’s a pic of the petits fours we (bravely) tried to finish after 14 courses of fancy overeating. Just to tide you […]

About

Hi, I'm Lee Tran Lam. When not blogging with my mouth full, I'm usually writing, presenting Local Fidelity on FBi radio, making zines, producing podcasts or continually breaking promises about how I really am gonna get through my book pile one day.

All the good pictures on this blog are by photography ace (and patient boyfriend), Will Reichelt, (all the dodgy ones can be credited to me)!

The lovely banner is by friend and ultra-talented illustrator Grace Lee.

This site redesign was made possible by the next-level generosity and expertise of Daniel Boud, whose code-tinkering ways are only outranked by his seriously inspired way with a camera.

You can read more about my co-conspirators here.

This is a blog I do for pure fun and zero influence – there's no sponsorship, sneaky advertorial or advertising. I pay for all the food mentioned, 'cos it seems the ethical thing to do.
