The Unbearable Lightness of Being Hungry | A Sydney Food Blog

Thank you

La Monica cheese

There’s a J. D. Salinger story where a character gives someone an “unpretentious bouquet” of parentheses. They looked a little like this: {{{}}}}. In a semi-similar fashion, I’d like to say thanks with a picture of cheese (see above, and enjoy).

Thanks to all the people who have left extremely thoughtful and lovely messages since I was made redundant from my day job at Inside Out magazine. (Also, thank you ex-workplace for the nice farewell work lunch at Bread and Circus in Alexandria). Losing your job isn’t the greatest experience, but I’m choosing to see the upside to what’s ahead.

Also, thanks to all the people who noticed that I’ve started writing for Good Living in the Sydney Morning Herald. I’m now the section’s cafe reviewer and really enjoying it so far – the extra jolt from all that caffeine consumption is just an Energiser-Bunny kinda bonus. You can read my first review, on St. Jude in Redfern, online if you like. My most recent one, on PS Cafe in Dulwich Hill, was published in the newspaper this week; I’m not sure if it’ll get a second life on the web, but if you’re ever curious about the latest cafe I’ve been assigned, you can always pick up the Herald on Tuesdays. And if you do, here are some {{{}}}} as a thank-you from me …!

About

Hi, I'm Lee Tran Lam. When not blogging with my mouth full, I'm usually writing, presenting Local Fidelity on FBi radio, making zines, producing podcasts or continually breaking promises about how I really am gonna get through my book pile one day.

All the good pictures on this blog are by photography ace (and patient boyfriend), Will Reichelt, (all the dodgy ones can be credited to me)!

The lovely banner is by friend and ultra-talented illustrator Grace Lee.

This site redesign was made possible by the next-level generosity and expertise of Daniel Boud, whose code-tinkering ways are only outranked by his seriously inspired way with a camera.

You can read more about my co-conspirators here.

This is a blog I do for pure fun and zero influence – there's no sponsorship, sneaky advertorial or advertising. I pay for all the food mentioned, 'cos it seems the ethical thing to do.
